The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority Partners with MassDOT and NuRide to Offer Riders Rewards for Making Greener Trips
Hyannis, MA - The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) announced June 4, 2012, its partnership with MassDOT’s MassRIDES and NuRide, offering walkers, bikers, telecommuters, carpoolers/vanpoolers, and transit riders rewards for choosing transportation methods that decrease Cape Cod’s carbon footprint.
NuRide, the country’s largest commuter rewards program, was developed to encourage people to make greener trips, while earning rewards. By accessing the CCRTA services or any other type of transportation service that one does not travel alone, individuals can accumulate points for redemption at retail stores, restaurant coupons, and tickets to shows and attractions.
Administrator Thomas S. Cahir is pleased to support NuRide, because CCRTA also believes that “every person who does their part to reduce traffic and emissions by taking a greener trip should be rewarded.” Already, the CCRTA has implemented a 20% biodiesel fuel mix on its Gillig buses, even though the Governor’s mandate is only 5%. The CCRTA has also employed eco-friendly bags so that drivers can assist customer’s in carrying groceries to their homes, rather than paper or plastic and is also working to create a Summer 2013 Rail Service, which will reduce summer traffic congestion and pollution.
The CCRTA Operations Center in Dennis hosts a monopole wind turbine, reducing energy consumption by approximately $40,000 per year. In addition, the CCRTA’s bus-wash system was designed with a full-capacity water recycling system, and our trash hauler has set up a non-sort recycling system for CCRTA waste.
In partnership with the Cape Air, Plymouth & Brockton Street Railway Company, Hy-Line Cruises, The Steamship Authority, Mass Coastal/Cape Cod Central Railroad, The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, and MassBike, the CCRTA hopes to promote and increase transit ridership Cape-wide.
NuRide is free to join and free to use and is supported by governments, businesses and sponsors. To participate, riders should go to www.nuride.com and join for free. Enter promo code BUSREWARDS and get 1,000 points FREE!
