The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) and Plymouth and Brockton (P&B) are proud to have partnered with Bridgewater State College (BSC) and Google to create a trip planner on the Internet so that a visitor to Cape Cod can get to and through the region without a car.

Thomas S. Cahir, Administrator of the CCRTA, stated: “In an ongoing effort to improve all aspects of transportation on Cape Cod, this collaboration between public and private entities provides an example of a successful partnership to enhance a visitors experience on Cape Cod.”

Google Transit, a division of Google, Inc., has developed a global network of transit providers on the web so that transit consumers can plan their trips by simply typing in the starting address and ending address of their trips on their computer or smart phone.  Google Transit’s computers will find the next bus and connecting service to a consumer’s destination.  The Cape’s regional bus service and the inter-city bus carrier from Boston’s Logan Airport and South Station have partnered with the GeoGraphics Laboratory at BSC to provide the data to Google.

Christopher Anzuoni, Vice President of Plymouth and Brockton (P&B) Street Railway Co. noted, “While P&B has been providing service to travelers for over 120 years, we pride ourselves on using technology to improve our customer service.  The private-public partnership with BSC’s GeoGraphics Lab, CCRTA, Google Transit, and P&B is on the leading edge of web-based travel planning, and we are pleased to be a part of it.  Customers from all over the world can plan to get to Cape Cod from Boston’s Logan Airport and South Station without a car.”

This is just the latest in a long line of technological innovations made possible through BSC’s partnership with CCRTA," said BSC President Dana Mohler-Faria.  "Our students, faculty and staff have benefited tremendously from this collaboration, and we are particularly thrilled to work with staff from Google who twice visited our GeoGraphics Lab to support the effort.”

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is also a partner with Google on the Google Transit Trip Planner.   By going to the CCRTA’s website (www.capecodrta.org) and choosing the Google Trip planner, a Cape Cod resident or visitor can plan their trip to or from Cape Cod and the Boston Region using CCRTA, P&B and the MBTA for the next available bus or  for some time in the future.

“The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce is excited that the CCRTA is making this sophisticated travel tool available," said Wendy Northcross, Chamber CEO.  "We have already linked this to our SmartGuide website, which encourages car-free travel to and around the Cape and islands.  We believe this will be especially helpful to the international traveler who has a natural affinity for public transportation."

Working with the GeoGraphics Laboratory at BSC and MassDOT, the CCRTA is working to add the inter-city bus services from New York City and the passenger ferry services to the islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.
